What is laser blended vision? How does it work?

In this video, Dr. Erik Chotiner explains what laser blended vision is and how it works.

People in their 40s and older begin to lose the ability to see up close without reading glasses. We call this process presbyopia. Presbyopia is an entirely normal aging process. The natural lens in our eyes loses the ability to focus up close. As we age further, we need stronger and stronger reading glasses to see up close. Individuals who have presbyopia may benefit from having laser blended vision.

Simply put, laser blended vision is a form of laser correction that uses LASIK or PRK techniques and technology. We correct one eye – usually the dominant eye – for distance vision. The other eye, usually the non-dominant eye, is corrected for better near vision.

Appropriately selected patients can effortlessly shift focal points as they perform distance and near visual tasks. So laser blended vision is a form of refractive surgery to allow patients spectacle freedom in their 40s and older.
