A great alternative if you’re unsuitable for laser eye surgery

DISCOVER HOW IMPLANTABLE COLLAMER LENSES FREE YOU FROM GLASSES AND CONTACT LENSES

For adults aged 21-45 years of age with a stable prescription for one year, we offer our patients Visian implantable contact lenses.

We will assess your eyes thoroughly at your consultation to ensure that you’re suitable.

Implantable collamer lenses sit between the natural lens of the eye and the iris. They work in a similar way to traditional contact lenses by focusing light through the lens and onto the retina correcting the vision.
Advantages

ICLs are a great treatment if you are unsuitable for laser eye surgery or if you have a high degree of refractive error.

Recovery after ICL surgery is much quicker than laser eye surgery, and it is also reversible.

ICLs are also a safer alternative to refractive lens exchange.

Patients who have a higher degree of myopia are at an increased risk of complications.

Rare complications include:

  • Rotation of a toric lens
  • Pupillary block
  • Retinal detachment
  • Elevated IOP

We will discuss these risks with you in detail at your consultation.

Laser eye surgery is a great alternative to ICLs if you’re suitable.

Step 1: We anaesthetise the eye using a topical anaesthetic drop. We typically perform the surgery on both eyes on the same day.

Step 2: We dilate the pupil and make a small incision in the cornea.

Step 3: We place the ICL between the normal lens and the iris.

Step 4: Patients are seen immediately after surgery to ensure the lens is sitting correctly.

Step 5: We will prescribe patients antibiotic eye drops for one week, and topical steroid eye drops for approximately 2 to 4 weeks.

In the US FDA 3-year follow up study which evaluated the success of ICLs, 98.4% of patients reported 20/20 vision.

Investigators assess the long-term correction of moderate to high myopia using a posterior chamber phakic IOL with a central port design. Click here to read on.

Implantable collamer lenses are a type of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (pIOL). pIOL are usually used for high degrees of refractive error or when corneal refractive surgery is contraindicated. Click here to read on.

Phakic intraocular lens (phakic IOL or pIOL) implants are an alternative to LASIK and PRK eye surgery for correcting moderate to severe myopia (nearsightedness). In some cases, phakic IOLs produce better and more predictable vision outcomes than laser refractive surgery. Click here to read on.
